Gene & Georgetti Celebrates its Milestone 70th Anniversary
Electricity was in the air at the northwest corner of Franklin and Illinois St. on Friday, July 15th as Gene &
Georgetti’s celebrated it’s 70th anniversary as Chicago’s oldest steakhouse. Tony Durpetti rolled back the prices
to 1941 as car after car rolled up and the Italian steakhouse quickly filled to capacity with friends, families, and
acquaintances who frequented this lively institution over the decades for food, wine, and song…
Flamboyant were the individuals who caroused the premises (inside and out) and re-ignited such Hollywood
personalities as Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, and Susan Hayward look-alikes. A memorable evening was
had by all with proceeds benefitting 3 outstanding charities: Standing Tall, St. Vincent de Paul Center, and
Common Threads.
A remarkable and legendary event such as this will be remembered for the next 70 years. Congratulations Tony
Durpetti !!
