At Gene & Georgetti, every meal is more than just food. It is a celebration of family, heritage, and the timeless joy of gathering around the table. Sunday supper is something we grew up with, something that shaped the way we cook, the way we host, and the way we welcome people through our doors. It reaches all the way back to the small Tuscan towns where our founders, Gene Michelotti and Alfredo Georgetti Federighi, first embraced the heart of Italian culture.
What Sunday Supper Means to Us
In Italy, Sunday supper has always been sacred. It is the pause in a busy week when everyone comes together. Grandparents, parents, cousins, and neighbors gather to share food, stories, laughter, and sometimes a few passionate debates. The table is not simply a place to eat. It is where memories are made, traditions are nurtured, and plates of warm pasta are passed from hand to hand with pride.

That same spirit lives here with us in Chicago. We strive to carry on this tradition here at home. From the rich aromas of house made sauces to heaping bowls of hearty pasta, Sunday at Gene & Georgetti follows a familiar and comforting rhythm. It is a reminder that some of life’s best moments happen when the pace slows and the meal is meant to be shared.
The Table Is the Heart of It All
A proper Italian Sunday supper begins with pasta. Generous and comforting, meant to be passed around the table. Plates that warm you from the very first bite. At Gene & Georgetti, that means classics like Tordelli Lucchesi, filled and folded the way they have been for generations, or our Tagliatelle Bolognese, rich and slow cooked, tasting as though it has been made with patience and care. These are the pastas that bring people back to the table. The ones that spark stories about Nonna’s kitchen or long afternoons spent lingering over just one more bite.
No Sunday supper is complete without a good bottle of wine. One meant to be shared, poured generously, and enjoyed slowly. One of our favorites for Sunday is Tenuta Nozzole, a Tuscan wine that feels right at home alongside these dishes. Its structure and warmth pair beautifully with the richness of the Tordelli Lucchesi and the depth of the Tagliatelle Bolognese, bringing the whole meal together in a way that feels effortless and familiar.
