For 85 years, Gene & Georgetti has proudly represented Chicago’s hospitality community — built on integrity, transparency, and mutual respect. These are the values that have guided us since our doors first opened in 1941.
Unfortunately, our recent experience with SSP America has not reflected those same values. SSP used Gene & Georgetti’s brand equity in part to win the Midway Airport RFP (request for proposal), only to jettison the brand shortly after the win.
Let this serve as a cautionary tale to any restaurant or small business considering allowing SSP to use their brand in response to an RFP — your name and reputation could be misused in the same way.
This is not about seeking sympathy. It’s about standing up — for ourselves and for every independent Chicago business, especially those that are woman-owned, who continue to invest in this city and help build its legacy.
Chicago’s small and family-owned restaurants are the heartbeat of this city. We deserve clarity, fairness, and respect.
