Yesterday, we had the profound honor of celebrating a man whose legacy helped define not only Gene & Georgetti, but also the spirit of Chicago’s hospitality: Anthony (Tony) A. Durpetti (1944–2024).

As part of our 85th anniversary celebrations, a portion of Franklin Street—just steps from the restaurant where so many memories have been made—was officially dedicated as Anthony A. Durpetti Way. It was a moment decades in the making and one that reflects the indelible impact Tony had on our family, our team, and the city we proudly call home.

The dedication ceremony was led by Alderman Brendan Reilly of the 42nd Ward, with heartfelt remarks delivered by Michelle Durpetti, Managing Partner and daughter of Tony, and her husband, Collin Pierson. Their words painted a vivid picture of a man who not only built a business, but also built community—one guest, one plate, and one act of integrity at a time.

We were honored to welcome longtime friends, family, and city officials to witness this tribute and then join us for a luncheon afterward, where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and memories of Tony were lovingly recounted.

As the street sign was unveiled, we were reminded that while legends may pass, their legacy lives on—in every corner booth, every perfectly cooked steak, and now, in the heart of River North.

Here’s to Tony. And here’s to the next 85 years of Gene & Georgetti.
